In The Game Banquet Held in Waycross
December 13, 2010 – The 2010 IN THE GAME High School Sports Magazine® (Southeast Edition) Football Awards Banquet was held December 13th in Waycross, with coaches, players and parents from all of southeast Georgia in attendance.
Ware County High School football standouts Spencer Clark and Edwin Grant were among the honorees. Clark, a senior offensive lineman, was presented the Bone & Joint Institute of South Georgia Academic Player of the Year award by Dr. Lex Kenerly. In addition he was named the Gators’ Outstanding Offensive Player by In The Game. Grant, a senior linebacker, was named the Gators’ Outstanding Defensive Player.
Former NFL running back Dexter Carter was the banquet’s guest speaker. Carter, a Baxley native who earned All-State honors for Appling County High School, was also an All-American at FSU, where he played from 1986-89. He played seven seasons in the NFL for the San Francisco 49ers and New York Jets and was part of the 49ers team that won Super Bowl XXIX.
IN THE GAME High School Sports Magazine® is a monthly publication that recognizes outstanding student-athletes from more than 120 public and private high schools in South Georgia, Middle Georgia, Columbus Valley, Southeast Georgia and Cobb·Cherokee Counties. Their annual High School Football Banquet honors senior athletes and coaches in the coverage area.
Other banquet honorees were as follows: Josh Henderson (Pierce County Middle School) – Crosby Cadillac GMS Nissan Middle School Player of the Year; Matt Ehasz (Camden County High School) – Century Metal Roofing Supply Special Teams Player of the Year; Justin Coleman (Brunswick High School) – Okefenokee Technical College Defensive Player of the Year; Chris Anderson (Brunswick High School) – Summit Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Surgery Offensive Player of the Year; and Rob Ridings (Glynn Academy) – C & C Sports Coach of the Year.
