Bone & Joint Institute Awards Academic Player of the Year at 2nd Annual Football Banquet
December 30, 2011 – JESUP, GA – The Bone and Joint Institute of South Georgia (BJISG) was honored to sponsor the Academic Player of the Year at In The Game Magazine’s 2nd Annual Southeast Georgia High School Football Awards Banquet held in Waycross on December 13th. The annual event recognizes players and coaches from Southeast Georgia Schools for achievement in athletics, and academics. It also recognizes one recipient each year with a Humanitarian Award.
This year’s Academic Player of the Year was awarded to Cody Crosby of Camden County High School. The award was presented by Dr. J. Lex Kenerly of BJISG who praised Crosby’s outstanding academic achievements as well as his athletic abilities.
Scholar-athlete Cody Crosby was a starting offensive guard for Camden County High School squad that went 12-1 and captured its 11th straight region title. He carries a 4.7 grade point average and scored a three-part score of 2070 on the SAT and 31 on the ACT. He is among just 50 scholars vying for the prestigious University of Georgia Foundation Fellowship and Ramsey Scholarship. With already nearly a year of college credit in his portfolio, he is already looking toward medical school.
“Participating in this event was truly exciting and inspiring for my family and me. It’s always fun to be in an environment filled with so much positive energy and we were proud to be a part of it again this year,” said Dr. Lex Kenerly of The Bone and Joint Institute of South Georgia.
In the Game High School Sports Magazine is a monthly publication that recognizes outstanding student athletes from more than 120 public and private high schools in Southeast Georgia. Other banquet honorees were:
James Dean (Glynn Academy) – Okefenokee Technical College Player of the Year; Tre Hamilton (Charlton County High School) – Summit Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Surgery Offensive Player of the Year; Jaquez Bolks (Waycross Middle School) – Crosby Nissan Middle School Player of the Year; Jake Walker (Pierce County High School) – Crosby GMC Special Teams Player of the Year; Coach J. T. Pollock (Appling County High School) – C & C Sports Coach of the Year; and Robert S. Lykens, MD – Satilla Regional Medical Center Humanitarian Award.

Dr. Kenerly, a Jesup native, has practiced orthopaedic surgery in the region for more than 23 years and specializes in sports medicine, total joint replacement of the hip, knee, and shoulder, and more. Kenerly is a graduate of Wayne Country High School, The University of Georgia, and the Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine. After medical school, he completed an orthopaedic surgery residency at the Greenville Hospital System and Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children in Greenville, South Carolina, and returned to his hometown to practice.
