Bone and Joint Institute of South Georgia Awarded Accreditation from The Joint Commission

jcaho_sealApril 7, 2011 – Jesup, Georgia – On April 4th, The Surgery Center at the Bone & Joint Institute of South Georgia earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™ for accreditation by demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission’s national standards for health care quality and safety in ambulatory care organizations. This accreditation means that The Surgery Center of BJI has been recognized for their dedication to continuous compliance with The Joint Commission’s state-of-the-art standards, and follows their receipt of accreditation in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) from the American College of Radiology (ACR) in March.

“Joint Commission accreditation is the highest standard for providing safe, high-quality patient care. It gives us the framework to continue providing the best possible orthopaedic care, and gives even greater confidence to our patients and the community we serve,” said Nurse Manager of The Surgery Center of BJI, Colleen Smith, RN, BSN.

The Surgery Center of BJI underwent a rigorous, unannounced on-site survey by The Joint Commission earlier this month. The survey evaluates processes by tracing patients through the care, treatment and service they received. The survey also analyzes key operational systems that directly impact the quality and safety of patient care, including infection prevention and control, leadership and medication management.

“This accreditation is an important milestone for the Bone & Joint Institute,” said Dr. Lex Kenerly III. “It demonstrates our commitment to quality healthcare and to the safety of our patients.“

“Organizations that strive for accreditation in ambulatory care from The Joint Commission are demonstrating the highest commitment to quality and safety to their patients, staff and their community,” says Michael Kulczycki, executive director, Ambulatory Care Accreditation Program, The Joint Commission. “I commend The Surgery Center of BJI for successfully achieving this pinnacle and for its dedication to continually improving patient care.”
