Dr. Jay B. Cook
Dr. Cook, the latest surgeon to join the Bone & Joint Institute of South Georgia (BJISG), is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon with a concentration in Sports Medicine and special interest in shoulder procedures.
Upon graduating from Furman University, Dr. Cook went on to Tulane University of Medicine and completed his orthopaedic residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Dr. Cook, a Major in the US Army, began his medical career at Winn Army Community Hospital, Fort Stewart, Georgia in 2014 where he is currently the Chief of the Orthopaedic Surgery clinic. During his nine-year active duty career in the Army, Dr. Cook has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal as well as numerous other military awards.
Dr. Cook was born in Texas to a military family. He fell in love with Georgia when his father was stationed in Augusta, Georgia at Fort Gordon. He has been married to his wife, Ashley for eight years and they have three children. Dr. Cook enjoys golf, hunting, and college football, but his priorities are his faith and his family.
Dr. Cook’s sports medicine concentration specializes in physical activity and sports-related injuries. This allows an ailing athlete to return to play as soon as possible through comprehensive care, training and rehabilitation. These services are available to all professional, high school, and recreational athletes alike; no one is exempt.
